WDCCS Scout Retreat – 2016
This inaugural event is being planned. Stay tuned for more information.
Does your parish celebrate? Do you explain the concept of vocations to your Scouts? Perhaps your Scouts can simply send a card or place something in the Church bulletin to let it be known that you love and affirm the priesthood of Jesus Christ and its central place in the life of the Church through His priests on earth.
A Scout is Reverent. This is a good time to award religious emblems and patches and show your parish that you support Scouting. Does your parish celebrate Scout Sunday? Do you support your Scouts attending at another parish? Scout Sunday 2016 has recently passed, but it is never too early to plan your 2017 event.
St George Trek
The Diocese of Winona is considering nominating up to two Boy Scouts to attend the biannual St George Trek at the Philmont Scout Reservation. The program can only accommodate 70 youth, so participants are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Selection will be on the basis of demonstrated maturity, physical ability, leadership potential, an interest in the life of the Church, and being open to the discernment of vocation.
The earning of BSA Religious Emblems and involvement in church, school, and scouting activities will be given consideration. Candidates should be emotionally mature and at least fifteen years of age on or before July 1, 2017, in high school, no older than 18 years old, and committed to assist the WDCCS when they return home.
They must also have the physical health and stamina to backpack on the mountain trails of Philmont. Forward nominations or questions to Fr William Thompson, our Scout Chaplain, at email@example.com.
