St. John the Baptist Catholic Church
Director of Youth Formation Position: St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato is seeking a full-time Director of Youth Formation to direct the planning, implementation and evaluation of Faith Formation program for upper elementary and high school youth. Responsibilities include:
- Direct the Confirmation preparation program for high school teens, including implementation of a curriculum plan, recruitment and training of catechists, leading parent orientation meeting.
- Direct and continue to build the overall middle school Roots and Edge (gr. 5-8) and high school (gr.9-12) Life Teen programs, including scheduling and administration, recruitment and training of adults and volunteers, and collaborating with the advisory committee and staff.
- Promote service learning at the parish, city and national level – including mission trips for high school age teens.
- Recruit St. John’s teens to participate in diocesan offerings geared towards teens and recruit and train chaperones for these events. Work with parish accountant on financial administration of programs.
- Collaborate with staff to plan and support Vacation Bible School and intergenerational faith formation community events, including involving teens.
- Fostering the involvement of young people (grades 5-12) in the life of the parish.
- Fostering strong relationships with parents.
- Maintain strong communication with youth, parents, and the parish community through all relevant forms of communication, including Facebook, phone calls, text messages, weekly bulletin, pulpit announcements, bulletin board, newsletters, mailings, etc.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Possess planning, organizational and collaborative skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a variety of ages, personalities and backgrounds.
- Collaborative nature to work as a part of a strong leadership team
- Able to speak in public and lead large group meetings.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Computer literacy – especially some social media.
- A valid Minnesota driver’s license and the ability to travel when necessary.
Applicant should be a practicing Catholic and possess a love for and knowledge of the Catholic faith.
Benefits-eligible position; salary commensurate depending upon experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree (B.A or B.S.) or Master of Arts degree in Pastoral Studies, Youth Ministry, Theology, Religious Education, General Education or a related field and, at least 2 years of related formation experience in a parish or diocesan position or currently training in Youth Ministry, Theology, Christology, Ecclesiology, Pastoral Studies, etc. Related degrees or comparable experience will be considered, such as curriculum development and teaching experience.
