Position Summary:

The Director of Institutional Advancement is responsible for creating and maintaining a comprehensive advancement program which conveys the mission, vision and philosophy of RCS.  The position is primarily responsible for donor relations and philanthropic operations with alumni, key individuals, groups, corporate businesses, foundation agencies, Catholic community, and the greater Rochester area.  Under the supervision of the Director of Schools and in collaboration with the RCS Leadership team, the Director is responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive marketing program that promotes the advancement of our Catholic identity by overseeing public relations, social media, branding, school enrollment strategies, and communication efforts.  The Director oversees department staffing and activities such as event planning, grant writing, annual appeals, capital campaigns, admissions, and the celebration of award programs.      

Selection Criteria: Bachelor’s degree (BA) from four-year college or university; and three years of proven experience in a combination of major gifts, campaigns, planned giving, fundraising, portfolio management, donor relations, event planning, and writing/journalist.  Or equivalent combination of education and experience in estate, tax or financial planning or wealth management.  Certification as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred.  Strong managerial, leadership and supervisory skills. Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication skills.  Knowledge in social media, marketing and database management. 
 
 
 
Essential Job Duties for this position includes the following items.  Other duties must be performed as assigned or required:

  • Represents RCS to all of its constituents including parents, alumni, faculty and staff, Catholic parishes and the community at large
  • Portfolio management - identify, cultivate and manage a robust pipeline of major gift prospects and philanthropic opportunities 
  • Identify opportunity for solicitation of gifts from corporate businesses, community organizations, governed agencies and funding sources
  • Coordinate and participation in major and estate planned giving events
  • Oversees capital campaigns, matching gift programs, foundation proposals, and grant writing   
  • Develop, implement and oversee fundraising system calendar, policies and procedures
  • Setting advancement goals and objectives that are clear and measurable
  • Conduct Catholic Schools Annual Giving program and Day of Giving events with employees, alumni, parents, past parents, friends and professional businesses
  • Plan and participate in Catholic Schools Week recognition and awards event
  • Maintain accurate donor records, database management, and processes to ensure appropriate recognition for gifts/pledges
  • In collaboration with the Central Office Department of Business, oversee the department budget to ensure compliance and good stewardship   
  • Responsible for overall student admissions, retention, and parent ambassador programs and events
  • Prepare and implement marketing plan, including social media, tiered communication matrix, press releases, brochures, and website management
  • Serves as the RCS spokesperson for public relations and media activities
  • Develop an Annual Report for publication
  • Provides leadership to, and oversight of, the Department of Advancement staff, including hiring, personal development, goal setting, and annual performance evaluations
  • Provide a quarterly activity report to the Director of school, including fundraising goals, enrollment retention, donor profiles and prospects
  • Attends Board of Trustees meetings and acts as liaison to Committees and Task Forces as assigned by Director of Schools 

 
Other Key Responsibilities: 

  • Under the direction of the Director of Schools and in conjunction with the Leadership Team, gain awareness of the mission, philosophy, goals and activities of RCS
  • Demonstrates by example the Catholicity, integrity, leadership, collaboration and commitment expected from everyone employed by and associated with RCS
  • Uphold, support, and promote all Rochester Catholic Schools’ policies and procedures
  • Personally nurtures and sustains productive work relationships, partnerships and alliances with those individuals, groups and constituencies to advance the RCS vision, including the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major donors
  • Works collaboratively with Rochester Catholic parish’s leadership to nurture relationships, partnerships and alliances
  • Creatively develops special initiatives that unlock opportunities to develop and sustain relationships, enabling RCS to leverage its presence, increase its impact on the community, and enhance its image as a leader in Catholic education 

 
 
Working Environment:   Work is typically performed in an inside, temperature controlled environment.  Some travel is required 
 
Physical Requirements:   This position typically involves sitting, reaching, standing and some light lifting <20 lbs
