ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY

Alexander knew the minute he woke up with gum in his hair that it was going to be a very bad day. And it was. He was scrunched in the car pool; his first best friend decided Alexander was only his third best friend; and his mother forgot to pack a dessert in his lunch. The dentist found a cavity in his tooth, and he was called a crybaby by his brother who didn't have any cavities. There were Lima beans for dinner, and there was kissing on TV. The bath was too hot, and he got soap in his eyes. Some days are just like that. Children learn that everybody has a bad day once in a while and that the best way of coping with a really rotten day is to find the humor in it -- and to complain a little.

Session 3: Called to Holy Orders. Every baptized Christian is supposed to make the priesthood of Jesus real in this world. Session 4: Called to Consecrated Life. The consecrated life is God's remarkable gift to the church. To be called to the "perfection of charity" means a life of obedience, celibacy, and poverty in His service. What steps can we take to discern if we are summoned to that vocation?

Session 5: Called to Holy Matrimony. It's popular to think of marriage as merely a commitment between two people who love each other. But Marriage, along with Holy Orders, is a sacrament of service. God unites a husband and wife in the convent of marriage to grow in selfless love for one another and their children, to build up the Body of Christ, and to serve as a witness to the world. Do we know what it means to be called to marriage? How can we know who to marry?

CATHOLICISM: THE PIVOTAL PLAYERS

St. Augustine & St. Benedict

Bishop Robert Barron's CATHOLICISM: The Pivotal Players is a multi-part film series that illumines a handful of saints, artists, mystics, and scholars who not only shaped the life of the Church but changed the course of civilization. Bishop Barron unlocks the truth behind the Catholic Church's most influential people to demonstrate how Christ's Incarnation is on display through the minds and lives of his Church's members. St. Augustine's narrative of personal transformation provides a template for life in Christ that still captivates today. In an age when people insist upon sharp demarcations between spirituality and religion, or between Christ and the Church, St. Augustine provides a unifying way forward. In a world darkened by the fading light of classical culture, St. Benedict cast a greater light - Jesus Christ. His insistence that the Gospel should be embodied in communities of friendship and peace, guided by the sacrifices of poverty, chastity, and obedience, became a new cultural matrix and unleashed a vigorous spiritual dynamism from which a new civilization would emerge. Journey along with Bishop Barron as he explores the lasting influence of The Pivotal Players.

Leonard Nimoy and Jonathan Pryce lead a talented cast in this vivid retelling of one of the Bible's most powerful stories. Brave warrior David leads his troops in battle against Israel's enemies and, tragically, against his own son. The film's human dimension is as vital as the combat.: David's rivalry with King Saul, his bond of friendship with Jonathan, and his illicit passion for the beautiful(and married) Bathsheba fill the screen with emotion. David the King

Bishop Robert Barron

Adam was the first king and steward of the rightly ordered Garden of Eden. He was called to govern the Garden, but by allowing negative influences to wreak havoc on Eden, he did not fulfill his kingly responsibility. Long after Adam, David emerged as the definitive king who would restore order in the Garden and bring the world under the lordship of God. But like Adam, David fell, and his reign ushered in a succession of compromised kings and rejected prophets. The Scriptures, however, foretold a son of David who would realize the fullness of Israelite kingshipâ?¦but whose actual reign defied expectation. In David the King, Bishop Barron helps us to understand this pivotal figure in light of the first king and the King of kings.

FAUSTINA

This award-winning movie is a beautiful representation of the mystical life of St. Maria Faustina, who became the "Apostle of Divine Mercy". It tells the story of her mystical experiences as a nun living in a convent in Poland in the early 20th century. It is to her that Jesus appeared and commanded that she be his instrument for promoting devotion to his Divine Mercy, and that the Feast of Divine Mercy be established and celebrated on the Sunday after Easter. He also requested from Sister Faustina that an image be painted and venerated of him and his Divine Mercy, and asked that we pray especially the Chaplet of Mercy. The story and film are based on her own writings from her "Diary", which has become a worldwide best-selling spiritual work. In From Top Model to Role Model, Leah takes you behind the scenes of the high-pressure world of high fashion. Launching her career as a cast member of the TV reality show America's Next Top Model, Leah plunged headfirst into the modeling business. Today recovering from the ordeal and having returned to the Catholic Church of her childhood, Leah speaks to young people, in particular young women, about the importance of maintaining their dignity and their relationship with God.

GUADALUPE: A LIVING IMAGE, UNA IMAGEN VIVA

December 1531, Mexico. The Virgin Mary appears to Juan Diego, a humble Indian peasant, but at first, no one believes him. On her request the Indian peasant wraps some Castilian roses in his "tilma," which had mysteriously bloomed on the barren rock at his feet. He is given an audience with his Bishop to tell his amazing story, and when he meets the Bishop he opens his cloak to a miraculous scene: the image of the Virgin is impressed upon it. The image is extraordinarily real. Centuries later, the results of scientific analysis are amazing. In the Virgin's eyes the 13 figures who witnessed the miracle are visible. The stars on her cloak are positioned exactly as they were on the day of the miracle. The painting technique used is unknown. The color are vibrant and intact; the cloth itself, uncorrupted by time. And that's not all: an extraordinary discovery reveals the Spanish origin (from Extremadura, Spain) of the name Guadalupe and it's incredible connection with the Evangelist Saint Lucas.

LEGEND OF THE THREE TREES, THE

The Legend of the Three Trees is a timeless retelling of the classic folktale of three distinct trees, each with its own hopes, dreams and aspirations. We follow a beautiful olive tree blossoming in the valley, a knotty oak tree clinging to the shore and a strong pine standing high on the mountainside. They each dreamed of becoming great - perhaps a majestic treasure chest, or a magnificent sailing ship, or maybe the tallest tree in the forest. But their dreams didn't seem to come true. Disappointed and dejected, the trees despair about their existence until they each finally interact, in their own unique ways, with Jesus Christ in His birth, ministry and ultimate sacrifice. In these experiences, they learn that God has a special purpose for each of them in His kingdom.

LENTEN JOURNEY: DANGER AND DESIRE

Father Michael Himes

In this four part video series, Father Michael Himes draws insights from the Lenten Sunday liturgical readings, and in particular the stories of water, light and life from the Gospel of John (year A). These are the readings recommended for use with RCIA, no matter what year it is in the cycle of readings. These videos help us reflect on the implications of our baptismal faith and are perfect for use with people preparing for Baptism, prayer groups and Lenten adult education classes. Danger and Desire: Father Himes examines in depth the readings of the Third Sunday of Lent. Water is a primal symbol and Father Himes shows its varied dimensions in the Scriptures. Water gives life, but it also takes life. Himes takes us on a reflection into the depth of baptismal imagery - showing how Christian commitment requires dying to self in order to rise with Christ.

These videos help us reflect on the implications of our baptismal faith and are perfect for use with people preparing for Baptism, prayer groups and Lenten adult education classes. Endless Possibilities: Father Himes examines in depth the readings of the Fifth Sunday of Lent. When Jesus is told to "come and see" the tomb of his friend, Lazarus, we are reminded of the "come and see" that Jesus extended to his first followers. When Jesus weeps and is troubled in this scene, there is a foreshadowing of the reaction of the disciples to Jesus' death. Himes brings us to the insight that life for Lazarus, and for us, holds endless possibilities. Death will not have the last word. The living God will.

We learn how "God sees into the heart" with the unlikely choice of David for king. We discover how the "man born blind" only sees Christ when he "testifies." Here, too, is a vivid description of the Easter Vigil in the early Church, when people literally stumbled through the darkness to receive the light of Christ.

Filled with gorgeous scenery from the Italian countryside, this film follows Padre Pio's life from a young boy through his death. PIUS X11

Based on Vatican documents and personal testimonies used for the beatification of Pope Pius XII, this epic film stars acclaimed actore James Cromwell in a powerful movie about the great, often hidden struggle waged by the Pope and many others with him to save the Jews from the Nazis during WWII. After the Nazi's take over Rome in 1943, Hitler's plan to kidnap the Pope is revealed as the Nazi's make an all-out attempt to silence the one authority figure in Italy standing strong against them. Everything comes together with great intensity in this dramatic story that retraces histroy from the documents and the testimonies of witnesses that was not fully known until now. Hitler and the Pope - on one side the man who catapulted the whole world into war and, on the other, the man who, more than anyy other, fought for peace. Despite all his efforts, Pius XII is not able to prevent some of the horrors that take place in Rome when over a thousand victims are deported to Auschwitz. But histroy testifies that over 10,000 Jews were saved, hidden in churches and convents in Rome - more saved than in any other occupied city. Even among the Nazi officers were those who opposed such savagery and, thus, under the Roman sky, both the saved and the lost, the victims and the executioners, shout the Pope's cry with their lives; Nothins is lost with peace. This award-winning documentary tells the story of Marta, a young Catholic woman in Sweden and her counter-cultural choice to become a cloistered Carmelite nun and live her life for God alone. Documentary filmmaker Maud Nycander follows Marta and her family for ten years to tell the story of her vocation. The Carmelite convent made a unique exception to its strict regulations by allowing the filmmaker to meet with and interview Marta both before and after her five year postulant period. The Carmelite convent in Glumslov in southern Sweden is normally closed to outsiders. Marta comes from a large Catholic family of nine children who live on a farm in Sweden. She had a very happy life with many friends in school, but felt the call to leave all behind for the challenging life of a cloistered contemplative Carmelite nun. This film explores that radical decision and follows Marta and her family as she becomes a Carmelite. Marta gives her own insights as to why she made this challenging decision to give up the possibility of marriage and a family for the life of a cloistered nun. We also meet Marta's family: her supportive father and her mother, first please with Marta's choice but later struck by a great, unexpected sadness; Helena, her closest sister, who has also considered joining a convent; big brother Samuel, a doubter who lives a Bohemian life in Paris; and little brother Emmanuel, to whom Marta was practically a mother.

THE PASSION OF CHRIST

Ron Rolheiser

Through Scripture and examples from life, Father Rolheiser gives new understanding and encouragement in how we can give our lives to the world and to also give our death to the world. When we think of passion we think of Christ's physical suffering and death but in the Agony in the Garden, the Gospels do not emphasize Jesus' physical sufferings. The Gospel writers want us to understand Jesus and the lover, who undergoes moral and emotional sufferings without resentment or bitterness. Father explain that God's strength comes when we are exhausted and open to being transformed. A profound and moving reflection in two parts with a live audience.

THE STORY OF THE TWELVE APOSTLES

They started out as average, unexceptional men of their time: fishermen, farmers, local magistrates. Now, discover the extraordinary untold stories of the men chosen by Jesus to bring God's plan to the world. Among them are Peter, who denied Christ three times but later became a "Rock"; James and John, the fiery tempered "sons of thunder"; Matthew, the tax collector later murdered by cannibals; Simon the Zealot, the anti-Roman fanatic eventually "cut to pieces" preaching in Spain; and Judas Iscariot, whose betrayal would be paid for with silver and suicide. Some think it should be all preaching, others think it should be â??entertainingâ??, still others think itâ??s all about the music. But what does the Bible say about worship? And why do Catholics do what they do at Mass? Why all the standing, sitting, kneeling, and repetition? Where does it all come from? Many Catholics know what to do at Mass, but not why we do it. And many non-Catholics are confused by the rituals and words of the Mass. Some even think that most of the Mass is just â??made upâ?? â?? a tradition of men. Nothing could be further from the truth. YOU.

Life, Love, and the Theology of the Body

IDENTITY.GENDER.LOVE.CHASTITY. The world is a challenging place for teens...and for parents and educators, it has become increasingly difficult to help teens discover the truth about their bodies, their sexuality, and their unique call to love. In an age of "selfies" and egocentrism, You: Life, Love, and the Theology of the Body cuts through the noise with an authentic view of the human person. YOU presents young people with the extraordinary story of their creation as unrepeatable individuals. But it does not stop there. YOU introduces teens to the truth that life is not all about them; it is about going out of themselves to be a sincere gift to others.
